about

Continuing on with their plan of not letting 2020 get the better of them, The Rollercanes are back with their third single for the year ‘Private Beach.’ A track that takes inspiration from being told one too many times to “just get a well payed job”. Blending influences from FIDLAR and Car Seat Headrest, this song creeps up on you, knocks you down and makes you wonder why you didn’t see that coming.

lyrics

Lyrics:
And I wake
wide eyed and hopeful
Because today’s my day
And I should just be grateful

But I was born a generation late
I’ve already been told
Whatever happens to me now
Is my own damn fault

Cause I’m a stain on this city like everyone my age
I’d rather cut my teeth than fill my pockets with change
You know I’d like to buy but I just can’t save
It’s kind of hard to do when they take half my wage

But you don’t know the thrill you’re missing
Not living week to week
But I’m sure you’re trying to solve things
When you walk along your own private beach

Still I try to understand but I’m not that quick
I turned on Q&A and it made me feel sick
But I couldn’t look away cause I’m a narcissist
And I swear they said my name

But you don’t know the thrill you’re missing
Not living week to week
But I’m sure you’re trying to solve things
When you walk along your own private beach

Well I want a life
But I don’t want to die for it

The Rollercanes sound like a normal indie rock band on the surface but there’s always the unshakeable feeling that things could turn at any minute. The Melbourne 4-piece scout everyday life for something to sing about, bringing urgency to insignificance.
